Bright Sunny Day

Bright sunny day!
Fine cool breeze blowing.
Today is the last day of the first month of this year. (January 31, 2011)
See how quickly 30 days have passed.
The old saying 'Time and tide wait for no man' is perfectly apt.
Swami Udith Chaitanaji and Madam Mayer both are saying the same thing - one from the Hindu point of view and another from the Christian point of view.
But after all what is religion? It is some belief ,that is all.
It is our thoughts that are important, not our systems or customs. That may vary from place to place.
In this world of mad rush to earn money, man forgets everything.
He has no time to think and act.
He forgets that life is short.
By the time he accumulates money by hook or crook, he must have almost reached almost at the end of his life. He may be a sick, old man, devoid of all energies.
Then where is the time to enjoy?

Smaller Homes

The other day I was reading a blog in which it was mentioned that Americans are going for smaller homes.

Yes, What is the need for very big homes? Just to show the financial vulgarity? or just to show the status?

In my opinion it is better to go for smaller homes. There are many advantages from smaller homes- requirement of land is less, reduced cost of construction, less maintenance cost, saving in energy and water.

Instead of going for conventional energy source for electricity, go for alternate energy like solar panels, adopt better showers and sanitary fittings and save water.
The building design should be such that natural light is available in abundance.
Depending on the space available in the plot, a nice garden should be made so as to have a green ambiance.

As the availability of servants is very difficult now a days, it will be possible for the house owner himself to clean and maintain it.

Sabarimala Tragedy

One of the most important temples of Kerala is the Sabarimala temple. Every season, a very large number of pilgrims visit this temple to see and worship lord Ayyappa.

This year an unfortunate tragedy occurred , and lot of pilgrims lost their lives in the stampede. In the month of December on 1 of malayalam month makaram pilgrims gather to witness the holy flame in the distant hills. After seeing this holy flame, the devotees were returning when the unfortunate incident happened. It is being reported that there were not enough police personnel to control the surging crowd.

The important feature of this temple is that it is situated in thick forest and the journey to the site is tedious and one has to walk quite a distance as there is no motorable road. The temple is not open during the whole year, but only for a specific period only. Also ladies in the middle aged group are forbidden to visit the temple. The devotees are expected to observe some well defined practices such as wearing black dresses, early rise and bath in the morning, chanting of slokas etc.

Devotees come from far of places , even from other states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra etc.

Taking into account the unfortunate incident of loss of precious lives, it is necessary to take effective steps such that such things are not repeated in future.

Over Weight

Now a days several people are complaining of overweight.
There are lot of problems due to overweight like
increased blood pressure, diabetes, problem in walking etc etc.
One reason for this overweight is too much junk food and lack of exercise.
Some people go for medicines to reduce their weight.
But the chances of reduction of weight due to medicine
are very less. Also there can be many side effects on account
of medicine.
The best way for loss of weight is dietary control and proper
exercise. Oily foods and bakery products should be reduced
as far as possible. In its place, vegetables and fruits should
be substituted.
Brisk walking, jogging, swimming ..these are some of the best form of
exercises.
At periodical intervals, weight should be recorded so as to monitor
the the weight control.

Health and Emotions

It is an established fact that there is a link between emotional health and physical health. Certain emotions are associated with certain physical organs in the body. For example, anger is associated with the liver, resentment is associated with the gallbladder, grief is associated with the lungs and fear is associated with the kidneys. When a patient comes in with liver problems, they often have a pattern and history of anger in their lives. The anger has been suppressed and they are not yet consciously aware of it. A patient may come in with lower back pain, and it can be of money problems or financial concerns. The associations between the physical body and emotions are endless.

Deeply rooted emotions that are not dealt with will eventually manifest into chronic problems affecting the associated organs. Generational or genetic weaknesses also contribute to illness. Many people are aware that it is not possible to separate the relationship between the body, mind, and spirit, as they are all interconnected. The traditional medical community is increasingly acknowledging this connection. The body, mind and spirit are interconnected and influence each other, creating the need to address all three aspects in order to achieve wholeness. Health and wholeness can only be attained through balance. If one does this in a balanced way, one will be operating at an optimum level with more effectiveness and efficiency. This may help to gain freedom from depression enabling to accomplish what God has called to do and to do it with excellence.

But will the wishes every time come true? Chances are very remote.
Then what is the remedy?

Wishes are only seeds. You have to plant them and then nurture them properly.

Here comes the will power. One should have a feeling of self confidence and should
strive hard to attain success. With patience and perseverance, one should concentrate on his activities so that his wishes and dreams come true.

Nature's Remedy - Aloe Vera

Everybody wants to remain healthy.
The old saying 'Health is wealth.'is perfectly apt.
That is all right.
But what if one falls sick?
He consults a doctor; doctor prescribes medicines.
The doctor can be an allopathic doctor, homeopathic doctor, unani doctor or ayurvedic doctor.
But our ancestors in good olden times were dependent on nature.
They got medicines from nature itself.
One such nature's wonder is Aloe Vera.
Aloe Vera has the reputation of a wonder plant with many therapeutic properties.
It has antibacterial and moisture properties, anti fungal and analgesic properties and
anti carcinogenic properties.

It is used in cosmetics, creams, lotions and facial washes. It removes the scars that often remain after the wounds are healed. When taken orally,it soothes the digestive tracts. It reduces inflammation and other symptoms in patients with ulcerative colitis.

It prevents the growth of cancer cells, reduces blood glucose levels, heals minor burns, reduces arthritis swellings, strengthens the immune system of the body, slows down aging, lowers cholesterol levels.... like that so many.

Learn from Others

There is an old saying in our locality which means that
' On each day one should earn wisdom(knowledge) and money and give it to others!'

As far as money is concerned, in normal case one may be doing some work / business and may be earning money out of it.

But the the question is knowledge. It does not mean that one should go to a college or institute to learn some thing. Man learns from his experience and that is valuable.

A successful manufacturer of ready made clothes the other day opined "If you want to become educated, try to meet someone who knows more than you."

One of the main reasons why most men slow down at 50 and lose the best opportunities is that they stop learning under the pretext of old age.

Remember life is short and therefore should not stop learning.

Home Business

Internet has come as a useful tool for home based business. People can sit in the comfort of their homes, and at their own convenience can do the business. There is no need to shuttle from home to office and back, no wastage of time in journey, saving in petrol expenses etc.

But of course it has got its own limitations. All types of work can't be done by sitting in a house. For a worker to work on a machine he has to go the factory, for an engineer to supervise a construction activity he has to go to the work site, for a pilot to fly a plane he has to sit in the cockpit ... like that so many works.

For a freelancer, internet related work is very much suitable. A writer, web developer, structural designer, artist, draftsman all come under this category.

In a conventional office environment, the situation is entirely different. All the staff from the top to the bottom will be under one umbrella and as such mutual consultation and group meetings can be easily arranged.

Thus even though the home business has got its own limitations, in the coming years with the vast developments in the internet based technologies, more and more people will be going for home based businesses.

Search Engine Optimization

The word which is seen and read in a very large measure now a days is SEO.
Every web site interalia contents want to come in the top of the list so that it is visible to every visitor.
Different algorithms are used in this connection. Key words, tags etc are important parameters to promote the visibility of the web site.
But the big question is the quality of the contents. Can the quality be judged in a judicious and effective manner?
For the marketing strategy this is definitely an important criteria.Lot of research has been done in this connection, much more will have to be done in the coming years.
Optimization as it stands is a varying function. It depends on the resources and the knowledge and expertise in the particular domain.
Searching should not be in the dark but should be in clear and bright light.

Happiness

The other day I heard in a TV channel, one man commenting -
he has a good job, house, family ,enough bank balance ; but still he was not happy.
So the question arises - what is happiness?
Can it be measured?
Actually, it is only a mental disposition, it is your attitude, your thinking.
A person may be poor, he may be finding it difficult to meet his both ends, but
still he may be happy. He may be leading a contended life, a life without
tension.
N0 doubt money is very important; you require sufficient funds to lead a
comfortable living.
But the big question is - Is their any upper limit for amassing money?
You have to die one day,you are not going to take with you all these money.
So one has try to lead a contended life.

Down the Memory Lane

As usual, I got up early in the morning - 4 AM.
Checked for Email, nothing special.

Bright Hub has accepted the pitch for article - 'Noise insulation.' for civil engineering channel. According to them, my rating is not up to the mark and want me to undergo training(?). Nice indeed.

After bath when I came in front of my house, I could see the misty surroundings. Cold wind blew.A batch of crows flew in and sat in the courtyard.

I remembered my childhood. Green paddy fields, silently flowing stream in front of my house, flocking morning birds - all the panoramic surroundings.

What is a Blog?

What is a blog?

To be very frank ,I do not know the exact meaning though I am penning down my thoughts.
I referred to my dictionary to find out the meaning of the word Blog.
But unfortunately there is not the word Blog in my dictionary.
The I searched the net.
Yes it is there ; a list of definitions.
The most suitable definition according to me is:

" A shared online journal where people can post diary entries about their personal experiences and hobbies."

That, blog is a personal diary; then why should one person read another person's diary.

The other day it so happened that I did read a big shot's blog.
In that he has written- He went there, met such and such person, stayed in that hotel, had a lunch with Mr X and so on and so forth.

But is it worthwhile to read such scribblings?

That means one should have followers to read. If no follower ,then what happens?

May be these are all part of this century? - internet,3G, blog, chat ...

Only time will tell.

Change in Life Style

What changes have taken place in our lives?

I was born and brought up in a small village- no electricity, no roads.
I had to walk about two miles to my high school.
I had to read books under a kerosene lamp.
My house was situated by the side of green paddy fields - every where green
surroundings.

Now vast changes have taken place, of course I am not staying there,
but I understand vast developments have taken place there also - electricity, roads, post office,TV,internet and what not?

Information is at your fingertips; internet has brought people around the world
closer, you can talk, chat ,communicate - all with in couple of seconds.

Will man will be able to develop a medicine so that he can live for centuries? Then that will create more problems. Now itself population explosion has created a havoc.

Let us hope for a brighter tomorrow with peace and prosperity.

Thought Control

Yes,it is slightly difficult to control the mind.
But you have to.
It is only through constant practice that one can encourage good thoughts and actions.
Good thoughts generate good actions;evil thoughts produce evil actions.
You must be able to throw away bad thoughts as soon as they rise in
your mind.
Conquer your thoughts and you can conquer the whole world.
Try to avoid thoughts of another man's defects.
Spread positive energy and make your surroundings energised.

Laughter- the best medicine

One important feature that makes man different from animal is his ability to laugh.
Just like man, animal also eats,sleeps,quarrels/fights and so on and so forth, but unfortunately can't laugh.

It is being said that laughter is the best medicine. It unloads tension, creates a vibrant and healthy surroundings. But the laugh must be from the heart and should not serve as a cover up for the emotions.

Now a days there are laughter clubs in many cities. People come together under one umbrella ,laughs and enjoys. Yes, to a certain extent it may be helpful -only thing is that it should not be mechanical as a routine measure.

When we see the acting of a comedian in a movie ,we laughs. But what is that which makes one laugh? Have you ever thought about it?

Laughter has the ability to change the moods of a person. His tensions and sorrows are eased.

So gentlemen, utilize every opportunity to laugh and make life happy and gay.

Article Writing

What is an article?

Article is a collection of words; describing about a specific topic.
The author of the article should have knowledge on the topic on which the article is written. He should also have the ability to write in that particular language-knowledge of the grammar, syntax and vocabulary.

The next question is - who are the readers? Is the topic oriented towards a particular class or group of people; for example students, senior citizens, scientists, ladies, politicians?

An article has the following sections - heading, introduction, body and conclusions. The books and magazines referred in writing can be given in the bibliography. Figures, tables can be included if so required.

What should be the ideal length of an article? This is very difficult to define. It depends on the subject and how the author is able to explain the subject matter in a clear and lucid manner. However on an average about 500 words are quite reasonable.

The author should try to explain in a simple and straightforward manner; flowery language should be avoided as far as possible. The syntax and grammar of the language should be strictly adhered to.

One week Past

Today is January 7
Already one week of this year is past.
See how fast days are passing.
The old maxim:
Time and tide wait for no man is perfectly apt.
Yesterday I put a Brain teaser in my site and has posted.
No reply so far.
Well anybody will reply?
To be very frank, I do not know.
Where is the time to think over it?
We are living in a world where there is no time
to relax and ponder over any topic.

Think and Act

I hear the talk of Swami Udit Chaitanya ji daily morning.
His talk is informative and interesting.
We have to control our mind and actions says Swamiji.
There is no meaning in making appeals to God for personal gains.
God knows every thing and there is no need to make a request.
We should have full faith in our selves.
We normally waste our energies in finding fault of others.
We have to change ourselves.

After a detailed checkup, the doctor could find out the problem.

But the doctor was in a fix ; because there was no treatment available for that disease. He could not decide as what to tell the patient. The patient was in the early stage of Alzheimer. The doctor thought what would be the mental state of the patient on knowing her disease?

Happy New Year-2011

One more year just passed the drain.

Today morning our old friend Tulsiram telephoned from Ludhiana.

Practically no contact with any body.

Previously Chatterjee used to telephone on New Year day; but he has also stopped now.

Out of sight out of mind - that is all.

New year resolutions; slip down the memory shortly.

Wish and hope for a bright, happy year-2011.
